Pilates was first developed in Germany in the 1920's as Joseph Pilates (1883-1967) was trying to cure his childhood illnesses (asthma, rickets and rheumatic fever). Along his journey, Pilates studied gymnastics, yoga, body-building, jiu-jitsu and boxing. In his research he discovered that "modern lifestyle", bad posture and inefficient breathing led to poor health. By focusing on fixing these traits he was able to cure himself of his ailments. By spreading his methods, he was able to help others too.

Skip forward 100 years and pilates is enjoyed around the world by people wanting to become more toned, flexible, increase their mobility, develop greater core stability and endurance.

induction session

Whether you are new to pilates or have been practicising for years, this one-on-one induction session is a useful tool to learn about your posture and body structure. It also enables the instructor to prepare a custom made training plan for you. The method followed is the STOTT Pilates method.

During your induction session your instructor will conduct a postural analysis as well as go through the 5 basic principles of pilates. This is followed by a pilates session. You can expect:

 * review of static and dynamic posture                                               * preparation of exercise modifications                                 * identifying muscular imbalances (related to faulty posture)                     * palpating bony landmarks                                                             * wear gym clothes - shoes are not required
